This thesis investigates how video-based tools from EyeAtProduction can improve root cause analysis of production disturbances by giving operators access to footage before failures occur and strengthening operator involvement in problem solving.

Production disturbances continue to be a major issue in the modern factories. It is also evident that enterprises encounter challenges in regard to handling said disturbances, especially in terms of root cause analysis. EyeAtProduction is a technology provider that specializes in solving these problems in manufacturing companies’ root cause analysis through providing the individual with video footage right before the disturbance happens.
A qualitative analysis has been performed, where two manufacturing companies have been interviewed with the goal of mapping their challenges and how they currently approach root cause analysis. Thus, several recommendations have been formulated based on the companies’ insights, as well as previously documented challenges and enablers for effective analysis.
The thesis shows that involvement of the operator is a central variable in effective usage of FilmTheFault. Furthermore, prerequisites for further improvement are discussed, as well as how the technology could be further utilized before, during and after a production disturbance.
